The following prompt is from 31 Days of January Writing Prompts by The SITS Girls.

29. Finish this story: A girl, sitting alone on a rock at the edge of the woods, jumps when she hears…

A girl, sitting alone on a rock at the edge of the woods, jumps when she hears the sound of a car fast approaching.

Oh no! Where do I go? They’ll see me here!

Her heart pounding, she gets up and runs deeper into the woods, hoping not to trip over the underbrush, or that huge snake she’d seen earlier in the day.

The car gets closer, its headlights scanning the woods.

She’d run off that evening, hoping to get away from all that was hurting her. No matter what she did, it was never right or good enough in her mother’s eyes. Everything she did was wrong and a cause of hardship for her mother, or so her mother said.

She just wanted to get away from it all, but how, when every sound, every movement, terrified her? And the hurtful words, the unwantedness, followed her right along anyway.

    • Thank you, Ellen.

I remember that evening like it was yesterday. But, I didn’t run into the woods. I ran back home, feeling very much like a scaredy-cat and a big baby for being scared and not just leaving like I wanted to.

      Have a blessed weekend!

I want to hug that girl, and tell her that her mother was wrong. 😥
