How
How do I get past this? Every time they bark, my heart races, even when I’m inside the house. The attack was just over a month ago and I still cringe when I go outside. I take the bat with me to the mailbox, knowing if they attack me again, I may not be able to use it.
How long are the bad dreams going to keep happening?
I know this is an attack of the devil, using those dogs to shatter my security and safety. Heavenly Father has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind.
Mine doesn’t feel too sound at the moment. This attack was the last straw, or at least feels like it.
How do I get past this?

Writing is a good way to express yourself. Although I don’t know how you can get past it when it is a genuine fear still there. I am sorry this is happening. XO

It is compounded by the fact that our Petra is apparently having moments of dementia and she got very aggressive with me earlier today, too. David called her off before she made physical contact, but it was upsetting nonetheless. Thankfully she is a fairly small dog, a chihuahua/Jack Russell mix. She has come at me several times since last year when she had a weird episode happen that we think may have been a stroke. It is like she has moments of total confusion and it is during those times that she comes at me aggressively.

Yikes, can’t something be done about these dogs? They should never be allowed to roam the streets.

I agree. We’ve talked to the owners and the husband said he was going to handle it. They are still over there, though. There was no point in notifying the city because they know the dogs are over there and the people are breaking the law by being over the allowed number of animals at a single residence (4 max, regardless of species). Although it is against the law for them to have over 4, the city ignores it for the most part. They did haul a bunch away one time, but by the next week, the people had gotten more dogs again. The female owner says the city people said that she can have them, but that is not what the in-print law says at all.
We cannot have a fence adequate to protect us (we aren’t allowed to have one totally surrounding the property), but they are allowed to be over the critter limit.
This city doesn’t care about anybody’s safety.

Those injuries are so awful! So sorry this happened.
Have the authorities done anything to cite the owners, and to maybe confiscate the dangerous dogs? I wish you didn’t have to be afraid to step outside your own home because of them.

Thanks, Barbara. We know from previous experience, there’s no point in calling the city about the animals next door. They don’t do anything about it. They are consistently over the allowed limit for animals and nothing is done about it. Well, they did pick up over 13 dogs one day last year, but the next week, they had a yard full again. They are allowed to break the law, endangering this neighborhood, but we aren’t allowed to protect ourselves with fencing the entire yard to keep them out. It makes me so angry.

That’s just not right! Not at all!!
Wish there was a solution to getting those dogs out of there. I wonder if pepper spray would do any good against them? Hopefully they won’t come around your place any more, though.

Thanks, Barbara. I don’t know if pepper spray would be effective or not with them. I think maybe their meanness would protect them from its effects. I would probably forget how to activate it and then end up it spraying in my own face. 🙂

Being a dog owner myself, I am very sorry this happened to you. Making sure nobody gets hurt by our dogs has to be first priority. I hope you get over this soon.

Thank you, Viola. My leg is much better now, though the two biggest punctures still hurt a bit. The bruising is, for the most part, gone now. The picture above was taken on the 4th day after the attack. At week 3, it was still bruised something awful, but it is much better now, a month later.

OH my gosh! This is horrifying! I am so sorry (and angry!) that you’ve had to deal with this! Did you go to the hospital? Have you called a lawyer? I would think something like “lawsuit!” might get someone’s attention. Sue them for a million for your medical bills and pain and suffering and then use the money to build a fence. Personally, I’d get a gun and use it if those dogs came near me again.

Thanks, Vanessa. No, I didn’t get medical attention. I don’t have insurance. My emotions go a hundred different directions on this. I could have pursued it, but it would have been pointless. They aren’t rolling in money either and are mot insured. They have five children (sweet as can be, helpful and respectful, too). The husband has been battling a brain aneurysm, surgery twice in the last year. Against doctors’ orders, he works anyway, trying to provide for them. The wife has two jobs and was trying to go to nursing school, too, but I’m not sure that she is able to continue school right now.
We’re all in a bad spot. I just didn’t want to put anymore on them.
I never know what I should do about anything anymore. Almost two months after the attack, the deepest bites are still here, but thankfully, no longer hurting.

You know, I totally get it. You are thoughtful and kind. Have they offered anything to you as even an apology for what their dogs did? Even just an “I’m sorry” would go a long way here. I do think though, that by law they have to have homeowners insurance, that is required by the mortgage company. That would have covered your medical expenses. For future reference, I guess, God forbid you should even need to know it.

The wife has apologized numerous times. The husband was mad and threatened to shoot the dogs. I am glad he didn’t shoot them, but wish the dogs lived somewhere else. They bought the house from his brother and were paying him directly, so I’m assuming no mortgage company was involved. I sure hope it never happens again. I think I’ll need to be put away if dogs attack me again. I don’t think I have enough room in me for that much fear again.

Well, it makes me feel a little better about the whole mess, knowing they responded that way. Maybe they will take more effort to keep their dogs locked up. Yes, in the meantime, keep that bat handy, just in case.

They’ve done all they can to try to secure the fence that is there. Long story on that fence, though, and crazy Texas fence laws.

IF you can get a hold of either coconut oil, or tallow, or both, you can melt them and add some lavender essential oil. Let’s say, 4 oz of oils, and a half-to-full tsp of lavender (depending on your nose and how much you like the scent). Mix well and then let it sit in the fridge for a couple hours until it’s chilled then you can take it out. This will give you a butter, or balm. Rub your fingers on it to coat them, then rub it on your wounds. The coconut and/or tallow will help soften and soothe your wounds and the surrounding skin. Both coconut and tallow are incredibly beneficial for skin and will promote healing, as will the lavender. The lavender has properties that will also help speed healing, keep away germs, and reduce any pain.
If none of these are available to you, drop me an email and I will make some and mail it to you (if you are comfortable privately sharing your addy with me).
By the way, David should be able to use this for his foot also.

I have some coconut oil, but not tallow or lavender. While I like the smell of lavender okay, it doesn’t like me. It makes my chest hurt something fierce. Am I understanding correctly that the coconut oil will do its thing without the other two things you mentioned?

I will definitely have to try this on David’s foot. The girl kitty has gone into heat and she tried to eat his toe while we were sleeping the other night. I woke up to find her chomping on it. He has no feeling in his feet, so was completely unaware that anything was happening. Now, his toes are red and warm. I’ve been using Neosporin on the wounds, hoping it will back off any problem because we have no way to get him to the wound care clinic right now. 😦

Yes, coconut oil by itself will help soothe skin and aid in healing. It has anti-microbial properties and will help to fight germs and infections without the side effects of meds. By all means though, don’t stop using the Neo. I don’t know how bad his wound is. I found this online: Soak the wounded area in warm water or put a warm, wet cloth on the wound for 20 minutes three times a day. Use a warm saltwater solution containing 2 teaspoons of table salt per quart of water. Use this solution to remove all the pus and loose scabs. (Don’t use hydrogen peroxide because it is a weak germ-killer.)
He may need to sleep with socks on! I know how those kitties can be!
Okay, anything I make for you will not have lavender. Give me a few days to see if I can find a good formula for wound healing.

David sleeps with socks on, but is bad about scooting them off as he twists and turns in his sleep. He isn’t allowed to soak his feet. I am not sure if putting a wet cloth on it for 20 minutes would be okay or not, but actual soaking is a definite no-no.
I don’t think we’ve ever had a kitty try to eat us before. This is definitely shaping up to be an interesting adventure. Early this morning while she was sitting with me, she bit my arm and was pulling my skin like she actually wanted to rip the flesh off me. I told her NO!, but I don’t think she’s in agreement. haha

I had a girl kitty once who had tumors on her ovaries and was in heat constantly until I could get her to the vet, which is when I found out about the tumors. She was a tiny terror! lol

Aww I’m sorry that your kitty had tumors. Were they cancerous?
“Tiny terror” would be a great descriptor for all three of these kitties, but most especially her right now. 😊

No, I don’t think they were. The vet removed everything when he spayed her, which is when he found the tumors, and told me that the tumors had kept her in constant heat. She was fine once the spaying was done. 🙂 Miss that girl!
