Monday morning was a very tense time for those of us here at McClendon Villa. David had an appointment at wound care at 9am at the hospital about 30 miles away from our home. All week, we’ve had a possible hospital admission and, potentially, a lower leg amputation hanging over our heads.
Many of you have prayed for David’s healing and for him to not have to be admitted to the hospital. Well, your prayers have been partly answered. While his foot hasn’t healed yet, it didn’t look any worse and he was able to avoid an admission to the hospital at this time.
Instead, the doctor has ordered a wound vac. We have two choices with this (outside of an admission). One choice is home health and the other is going to wound care 3 days a week.
The home health company in our area has smokers for employees and I have COPD. They have also proven to be incompetent otherwise, with one exception. That particular exception was a great woman to work with. She was friendly, caring, competent, AND a non-smoker. But, we believe that she moved on to another type of nursing soon after David was released from home health last time. So, we have chosen to go three days a week to wound care at the hospital 30 miles away.
This isn’t the cheapest route, but appears to be the best one for both of our health. We know the majority of the wound care workers to be competent (some are too new for us to judge yet).
Please pray that we will find a way to afford these trips back and forth to wound care and are able to follow through until David’s foot is healed.

I hope that you’re doing okay so far, Linda. I am so sorry that you had to have that surgery, too. I hope and pray that didn’t put one of those blasted mesh things in you like they did me. Don’t worry about catching up. All of us will still be around whenever you’re able. Don’t push yourself too much. Take it from me, doing too much too soon after a hysterectomy has consequences. thank you Suzanne, no, no mesh, they were going too, but he doubled stiched—I cant remember what my husband told me, I will find out tomorrow when I see him for my post op, believe me, I haven’t felt like doing anything. Keeping you all in prayer.

I am so glad to hear you didn’t get the mesh. It has caused so much trouble for me and many others. I hope that your appointment goes well. Do you have a huge bruise now, too? When I first saw mine, I was shocked. It was so huge and looked like someone had beaten the fire out of me. Thankfully, I have a high pain tolerance. I hope you do, too. {{{Hugs}}} Many prayers going up for you.

ummm…yes and no on the bruise…it looks like I expected it too. I had a c section, so I knew it would “rough”…only this time, there are no staples to take out, they doubled stitched everything and they will dissolve by themselves. yep, high pain tolerance, its just sore right now…especially on the right side.

I’m glad that you have a high pain tolerance, too, and are just sore. Hopefully that will pass very soon. The hardest part for me was getting up and down. I gave up on the bed and ended up staying on the couch. I never had a c-section, so I didn’t really know what to expect. I remembered my mama’s hysterectomy and was scared to death what was going to happen to me. Mine was far less invasive than hers, though we had the same things removed. I’m glad you don’t have staples to deal with! They glued me back together, which really freaked with me. 🙂

Oh, I had a full abdominal done…hip to hip. I finally can sleep in our bed, albeit, on back, sigh. I have learned some tricks into getting in and out, and on off an on the couch or a chair. Ioverdid it yesterday, it was suppose to be my post op, but 2 women went into labor, so I have to go back Wed. Yep, the hardest part is getting up and down, sigh.

OUCH! My mama was a full abdominal one done, too, from her belly button down to..well, you know. It was horribly scary. I was a young teen at the time. I was blessed to have the laparoscopic-assisted surgery and basically gave birth to my insides. There is minimal scarring. Had the tumors been any bigger, I would have been in for what you and my mama had. I was very blessed.
I am glad that you made it through your ordeal safely. I’m sorry you didn’t get to get your post-op over with on the planned day. I never technically got the final post op exam. I went in for it, but had a rash and the doctor was afraid to be near me (she also dealt with pregnant women, so I understand the concern). There was no time for a rescheduling as she was moving her practice into Houston within a couple of days of that appointment. To tell the truth, I was glad to be able to avoid that exam. I was more scared about that than the surgery!

he reopened my c section scar, I’m sore, but not in terrible pain. I think the rash is regular thing, coming down off the meds etc. My scar looks as expected, like mince meat (lol), inflamed, its only been 17 days. I’m sure in time, all will be good…keeping you and David in prayer, be joyous my friend, regardless of life’s throwbacks, smiles.

I’m glad you aren’t in terrible pain. It will pass and hopefully quickly. My incision scars are almost imperceptible now, at 7 years out. You’ll do great. You’ll be under the Christmas tree like the kiddos before you know it. 🙂
Life is doing some serious throwing right now, but we’re tough. We’ll make it.

no,not terrible pain, more discomfort and sore…he said yesterday I should be back near 100% by Christmas.
I’m sorry things aren’t going well…I’m kinda of depressed, very little money for presents etc…sigh, it is what it is…sorry, didn’t mean to complain. Keeping you in prayer…you can always email me, smiles. Merry Christmas to you as well.

Thank you, Vanessa. We got very frustrating news yesterday. He has three “bugs” working in his foot, one being strep B. The IV course will have him in one medical facility or another for at least six weeks.

Thank you, Vanessa. We appreciate those prayers very much. We’re going stir crazy in this place and we still have a long way to go. At leadt the food is good at this hospital. It was disgusting at the one where we spent December 11-16.
