Friendly Fill-Ins

This is a fun meme co-hosted by 15 and Meowing and McGuffy’s Reader. Be sure to visit and join in the fun!

Here are the fill-ins:

  1. I start to decorate for Christmas/Hanukkah __________________________.
  2. I prefer a ____________________ Christmas tree because ______________.
  3. The best thing about the holidays is ________________________________.
  4. The worst thing about the holidays is _______________________________.

Here are my responses:

Our oldest daughter was born exactly a week before Christmas, though she was due on December 13. We wanted her birthday to get to be a birthday, not a combo-deal, so we put off decorating for Christmas until she gives the go-ahead. Usually she chooses to do it on her birthday. Last year, it didn’t happen until almost Christmas Eve!

I prefer a big Christmas tree, because they can hold so many ornaments and so many memories. Little ones can hold lots of memories, too. But, we only have the space for a small tree and the kids lost most of the ornaments when they took the tree down several years ago.  So, new ornaments a little along and along, and new memories.  It’s all good.

The best thing about the holidays is a wonderful meal with family members.

My daddy and Laynie, 7 December 1991

The worst thing about the holidays is missing those family members that are no longer around or that can’t otherwise be with us. This year marks the 5-year mark for losing my daddy and almost losing David. I am very blessed to still have David with me.  I still can’t talk about Daddy without crying.

Xerxes, Christmas 2014

Have a blessed weekend, y’all!

It seems like forever ago that we lost Papa Jim. It seems like just yesterday, too The same for Xerxes. He was a lot of fun rolled into one little package, kinda like dynamite. I love you, my zing.

    • Time sure has a way of messing with our head, doesn’t it? Forever ago and yesterday goes for so many of our loved ones. I can’t help but smile when I see these scars on my inner elbow that Xerxes left behind. Dynamite is a great word for him. I love you, too, my Zing.

  2. Christmas is all about love, beginning with the most perfect love. The ones now gone celebrate with the King! But, we celebrate them all in our heart. There are several that we miss. I especially miss my Grampy, and my Dad, too. Bill misses his Dad. We both miss Dewey. Peace.

    • Very true. I hope they are all celebrating with the King. It is my understanding that my Granny found Jesus near the time she passed away. I don’t know if my Papa will be there or not. I hope so. I am sorry that you are missing folks, too. We can carry them in our hearts, but sometimes it would just be so good to be able to have them in our arms, too.

It’s so hard when we think of those not with us at holidays. You and David are in my prayers.

    • Yes, it is very hard. I guess I am greedy. I am very happy with those that can be here, but still want those that aren’t to be here, too. Thank you for the prayers. You’re in mine, too.

Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers, as always. I am sorry the kids lost your ornaments 😦 I like the ancestor ones you made last year and I am hoping to try that this year. Nice photo of your Dad and Laynie, and the one of Xerxes is adorable. Have a nice weekend! XO

    • Thanks, Ellen. I will be using those ancestor ornaments this year and will be re-doing some of them at some point. They stuck together and some of the pictures tore when I tried separating them. So, when you make yours and go to store them, you might want to put a cloth of some sort between each one so that they don’t stick to each other like mine did. It gets so hot here, I guess the glue melted and glued them together. I can’t wait to see yours!

Daddy really loved my babies and didn’t shy away from having his picture taken with them. I am glad of that. 🙂

Ahh Xerxes, we sure do miss our little manian debil. He was a wild one, but oh so sweet and cuddly. I think he was absolutely the hardest kitty to say good-bye to.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed weekend!
