I am having trouble identifying what I am pretty sure is a woodpecker. Since the Downy Woodpecker and the Hairy Woodpecker look alike, only a size difference as far as I can tell (Hairy Woodpeckers are the bigger ones), I don’t know which one this is. I am sure that it is a female version of whatever it is because it does not have the red stripe on the head like the males of both varieties. Can any of you tell me which one this is?

Hmm well, okay. Maybe it is. We sure don’t want to get THOSE started in the trees here. Dodging birdie poo is hard enough. 🙂
I love you, too, my Zing.

What’s a little moose poop when you can get a great picture?

It is little moose poop. 🙂

I think it’s a Downy. There’s a bit of difference in beak/head ratio that helps with identification.

Thank you, Patti. 🙂 I appreciate the help very much.
I saw another different bird today, but I couldn’t get a clear picture of it. It was way up in the trees. It had a yellow tummy and either a gray or brown back. It was hard to tell due to the distance and the dappled lighting up in the tree. Hopefully, it will come back again and let me take its picture.
Thanks again and have a blessed day. 🙂

It’s always fun to find a new bird!

Yes, it sure is! I thought I had a new bird this morning, too. It was blackish with red, similar to a cardinal, but not exactly. It turns out it is apparently a young male cardinal working on transitioning to its red feathers. I will likely post that one in just a little while. 🙂
I didn’t see the yellow-bellied one again this morning, but maybe next time.
Have a blessed day!

Thank you again, Patti. I looked up a comparison of the two woodpeckers that shows the two birds side-by-side and the size difference of the beaks. Now, maybe I’ll know who I’m seeing, just in case both of them are living here.
Have a blessed day!
