Does your first or middle name have any significance (or were you named after another family member)?

I was not given a middle name.  If I had been given my name exactly as my daddy wanted it, I would have had one.  My mama figured that I didn’t need a middle name because I would have one once I got married.  My maiden name would become my middle name.

Annie Black Gunter, 1884-1960

My daddy wanted me to be named Suzie Annie.  Annie was the name of his paternal grandma, who had a huge part in raising him after the breakup of his parents’ marriage.  He and his siblings always called her “Big Mama”.  He loved his Big Mama very much and wanted to honor her by naming me after her.  Aunt Suzie was Big Mama’s sister.

While I don’t know about any other child or great-grandchild in my daddy’s family being named after Aunt Suzie, there are several of us that have “Ann” in our name.  My daddy’s sister’s middle name is Ann and her oldest daughter also has the middle name Ann.

And then there’s me – Suzanne.  My mama adjusted the name that my daddy wanted more to her liking.  For years, I was glad for my “smushed” name, but now, as I’m getting older, I have an appreciation for my daddy’s version of “Suzie Annie” and I think I would have been happy to have that name.

Surprisingly, none of my daughters have “Ann” in their names.  They were named after other family members and family friends.   I guess it just never crossed my mind while I was preparing their names.  Now, I could slap myself for not sliding “Ann” in there somewhere.  As it is, they have a first name and two middle names and their surname.  By the time they have a married name, they’ll have five names to squeeze onto forms.  You’re welcome, girls.  😊

Music or silence while working?

I have trouble focusing when things like radios or televisions or throngs of people are making noise.  While I don’t need absolute silence, I do need quite or I just cannot think or read or write.

If you had a special place for your three most special possessions (not including photos, electronics, people or animals), what would they be?

I do have a special place for prized possession.  Right now, these things are in a gift box from one of the last presents that our Marine gave to me.  Since our special things collection has grown, it has outgrown that gift box.  I chose a wooden chest at Hobby Lobby that I will be decoupaging at some point and the special things collection will move into its new home, along with that gift box from Davey.

My special things would be my engagement rings, the Claddagh ring that our Marine gave me, necklaces and other jewelry given to me by David and our children,  the rings from my granny and our friend Mrs. Elizabeth C. Smith, pins that belonged to David’s daddy, and our high school rings, as well as Aunt Mae’s bell.  My Bible is very special to me, too, and would also be there.

The Never List: What are things you know you never will do?

I am kind of scared to answer this one.  They say “never say never” and, sometimes, if you do say it, you end up being forced to do one of those “nevers”.  Scary thought there!

So, I will name things that it would take an absolute act of the Father for me to be in the position of them happening.

  1. I will never climb Mount Everest.
  2. I will never go exploring inside the belly of a whale.
  3. I will never be a National Geographic photographer.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for being able to go out and take pictures at Lake Lovely.  There were a zillion fiery lantana plants out there and butterflies absolutely everywhere.  Unfortunately, none of them landed on my side of the fence so that I could take their picture.  A bee obliged me, though, and didn’t even sting me, another thing I am very grateful for!

I am looking forward to Friday because getting to Friday will mean that I survived Thursday.  Thursday is when I go for the consultation in Houston regarding my cataracts and the surgery.  I am hoping that the nightmares will stop very soon afterwards, but have the feeling they will get a lot worse until the surgery is behind me.

As I told someone earlier, we’ll *see* how that goes…. at least I hope I will!

Have a blessed day, y’all!

I like your “never” list. 😀 I don’t want to go exploring the belly of a whale either.

It’s kinda economical, the way your mother named you — as if letters cost more 😉 Suzie Annie would be fun, I concur!
I named one of my kids after my grandmother, as did one of my cousins.
Lovely fiery lantana, indeed! Beautiful picture! Are you sure National Geographic doesn’t want you?

    • Mama had good reasoning on the name, that’s for sure. But, yes, Suzie Annie would have been fun. If it weren’t such a headache to change one’s name, I would probably do that and have the name Daddy wanted me to have. But, it is a headache and probably expensive, too.

How sweet that you named one of your kids after your grandma. Do the two kids named after your grandma like their names?

Our youngest daughter is named after my maternal grandma and her sister. Boy, have people argued with us about her name. It is spelled Maeghan (Mae for Aunt Mae), but we call her Maggie, after my grandma. David is forever getting corrected about how to say/spell her name. People keep telling him it is “Megan”. Even funnier and more frustrating…people keep correcting HER on what her name is. Can you believe that? She’s 21 years old. I think she knows her name by now. haha

Thank you! I don’t think NG even knows I exist and, if they did, they’d probably more likely use my photos as an example of what NOT to to in photography. haha

      Have a blessed night. 🙂

Yeah, you don’t get to tell people what their own names are or how to say them! Isn’t that bizarre?
I think both of them like it fine, yep.

        • Yes, it is very bizarre! Very annoying, too. Thankfully, so far we have refrained from slapping anybody over it. 🙂
One of her professors even marked her a lower grade saying that she got her name wrong. The Dean ripped that professor a new one. He told her in no uncertain terms that you do NOT do that. Maggie’s grade got corrected. 🙂
Maggie also started calling that teacher by her first name rather than Dr. So-and-so. She told that professor, “If you can call me by my first name, wrongly, then I can call you by YOUR first name.” That’s our girl!
          Have a blessed day. 🙂

            HAHAHAHA! Omaword!!! Haha! Good grief!
I work with the general public and I am here to tell you, there’s a lot of Megans, just plain ol Megans about, as one would suspect, but there are also Meghans and Meagans and Maegan, so… I notice that with Bridgets as well. I feel assured that when they tell me their names, they are the authority on them 😉
            Enjoy your evening 🙂

          • That’s what I figure, too. Pretty much by the time one is 21 (ideally way before!), one knows their own name. I can’t imagine ever arguing with anyone over their name. It is just unreal. 🙂 I hope that you enjoy your night, too. Thank you!

  5. Love the lantana… and the bee! Silence for me whether I am working or not. When I want to listen to some oldies I turn them on. Suzie Annie is a great name!

    • Thank you. That bee was so fuzzy, I just wanted to pet it, but I refrained. I figured it might not appreciate that very much. 🙂
I think Suzie Annie is a great name, too. Thank you for that!
I like oldies, too. What are your favorites?
      Have a blessed day!

What cool questions!! They really make you think. You know my middle name is Porkchop. Rolls piggy eyes. Yes my parents thought they were humorous. Can you imagine oinking around with your full name being Bacon Porkchop Thompson? And some things I would never do… that one is easy. I would never walk into a meat market. Can you imagine that looks I would get? Snorts with piggy laughter. Have a great day my sweet new friend. XOXO – Bacon

    • Yes, they do make you think. Cee always has great questions. 🙂
I can imagine that it would be very problematic for you to go into a meat market. I agree with you never going in there. I think Porkchop is a cute name, but I can also understand how one might not like to be called that. I know I wouldn’t like to be called that. 🙂
I hope that you have a blessed day, too, sweet Bacon. 🙂

You will do fine with the consultation you have coming up. After your procedure you will feel so much relief and wonder why you put so much energy into it. At least that is what always happens to me.

    • I hope you’re right. I just know that the last two surgeries that I have had ended up with some might nasty complications that have life-long repercussions for me. I am scared of the same thing happening with my eyes. What is the case for most people is generally not how things work out for me for whatever reason. So, it scares me to go through something scary and then maybe still end up blind, maybe even sooner than I would if I just left the cataracts to their own devices.
I appreciate your encouragement very much. Things will be better somehow, I hope, on the other side of all this. It is getting to that other side that is being difficult right now.
Thank you again. Have a blessed day. 🙂

Interesting about your family names. I don’t know of anyone in our family who was named for anyone else. My niece, however, changes her name all the time, ever since she was little. We never know from one day to the next what it is. She’s had it changed legally, too. Don’t know why she does that. …My husband’s family now, haha, they have a nick-name for everyone! 🙂 I like thinking about names.

    • Thank you. I like hearing the stories behind other folks’ names, too.
It is interesting that your nieces changes her name so often. I wonder why she does that, though I reckon it keeps folks on their toes. 🙂
What’s your favorite nick-name from your husband’s family?
      Have a blessed night. 🙂

It’s pretty confusing, the nick-names, but I’ve heard them for so long I know who they’re talking about. There’s my husband, Randy, and he gets called Dave. Then there is a real Dave (David) who is called Digger, then another David who is called ‘the Stick’, then another Dave who is known as Joe Bob, then another friend Roy, who is just called ‘new guy’, and my MIL was known as Eller, but her name is Betty. haha, there’s probably more but I can’t think of them right now. For some reason I never got one…I feel left out! 🙂

    • Those nick-names are funny. I wonder how they decided on those? Maybe you need to tell them that you want one, too. 🙂 I bet our Maggie could come up with a good one for you. She gives boy things girl names and girl things boy names. She has a kitty right now that she has named Martha. Yep, it is a boy cat. haha

      Have a blessed weekend!

haha I know it is confusing, but after so long, you get used to it! They’d probably just call me weirdo or something! All our pets have lots of things we call them, too. 🙂

    • Cool. We call our kitties and grand-dogger all sorts of things, too. Our family has a lot of nicknames. David’s was “Bird” in school and even still now with his friends from way back then. One of mine was “Weird chic” and another was either Mutt or Jeff, whichever was the short one, and, of course, Suz. 🙂 Our kids call me “Moogie”, like Quarks mama from Star Trek Deep Space Nine. She and I have a lot in common. haha
