Share Your World – 2016 Week 51 – Favorite Holiday Edition

What is your favorite holiday?

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It has been for as long as I can remember.

What types of food is associated with your holiday?

We always have: turkey, dressing, gravy, green bean casserole, macaroni & cheese, cranberry sauce, and rolls of some type.  Sometimes we have ham and mashed potatoes and gravy, too. We usually have a pie or cake of some type. As a child at Granny Gunter’s house, we always had banana pudding, too. I sure miss those!

Do you travel for your holiday?

We go to the Island to get our youngest baby girl. Most years we also go into the City to get our oldest baby girl. She stayed home this semester to help after her daddy’s strokes back in May, so she was here already.  Other than that, no, we don’t travel for Thanksgiving.

Is it a religious or spiritual holiday?

Thanksgiving is very much a religious holiday.  It is intended to be a time to thank Heavenly Father for a bountiful harvest, for the food on our table, the roof over our heads, and our families. Without Him, none of these things would be possible.

Is there a gift exchange?

Not the type that gets wrapped. The gift is time with family members and the food set before us.

How long does the celebration last?

Ideally, “Thanksgiving” lasts all year. The recognized holiday lasts as long as our babies are here and the turkey holds out.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for a husband that is doing his best to move Heaven and earth to find a way to pay for the surgery. I am thankful for family and friends that have endured my whining and totally terrified thoughts and what ifs over the last week since the cataract diagnosis.   I am grateful for those that have given to the fund, those that are doing what they can to promote it, and those that are praying for my vision.  I am grateful there is hope that I can be asleep for this surgery, even if I have to go to Indiana to get it!

I am looking forward to Christmas dinner with David and the girls and hopefully getting to talk to Davey again. I am thankful that Christmas means we are closer to having Davey here for a visit again and stationed back stateside.
