Do you prefer eating foods with nuts or no nuts?

I like it either way.  I have to be picky about the nuts that I eat.  I went my whole life loving cashews (and still love them!), then, a few years ago, I had an allergic reaction. Now, I’m scared to eat them.  My lips swelled up really huge, cracked open, got all oozy and stinky and it was just a horrible mess. I love pecans, almonds, and peanuts, and a host of other nuts, too.  I sometimes like pecans on a banana split, but only if they are not over-toasted. I don’t like them with a bitter taste.

If someone made a movie of your life would it be a drama, a comedy, a romantic-comedy, action film, or science fiction?

They already have, at least, in part. “It’s A Wonderful Life” is, in many parts, a story of my life, too.  George Bailey had big plans and things kept changing them. He felt trapped in his hometown of Bedford Falls and wanted to go out and see the world. I felt trapped in my hometown in Anderson County, South Carolina.  I wanted to go out and see something new, do things I’d never done before. In that, I guess I did better – on the surface – than George because I left South Carolina and came to Texas. However, on the surface is where it stops.  Sometimes we find out what we really want, where home really is, when we no longer have it anymore.

Daddy, Me, & Mama, circa 1966

My life has always been full of drama, including the day that I was born.  My mama and my aunt (mama’s oldest sister who was also pregnant at the time) were out on a walk.  My mama fell into a hole, which put her into labor.  My mama had no preparation for childbirth, as I understand it. She was terrified beyond belief and fought it. Her blood pressure went through the roof and she passed out.  When she woke up, she had no clue whether I had been born or not. She was scared my aunt was going to tell her that I was still in there.  Thankfully, for us both, I had been born while she was passed out. We spent the next two weeks in the hospital because she was sick and I was born sick and at least a month early. When it was time for Daddy to pick us up, the hospital wanted money that he didn’t have before they would release us from the hospital. He couldn’t pay them, so he told the hospital that they could take care of us better than he could, so he’d just leave us there.  NOTE: I am not writing this from a hospital nursery. 🙂

Who talks real sense to you?

My daddy was right on a lot of things that I didn’t give him credit for back when I was a kid. My best friend, who I call “Sis”, is a wise woman and a great guide. My grandparents made sense to me.  In a lot of ways, David makes sense to me.  In others, well, he’s a boy and boys have cooties!

Do you have a favorite board game?

I love to play Scrabble!  I also enjoyed Chinese Checkers and Parcheesi, which I often played with my Grandma Spence. She loved to play games.  I like Monopoly fine, especially the My Little Pony version the kids have.  Scrabble, though, is my most favorite. I love words. 🙂

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am thankful that we had both of our girls here for Thanksgiving and wish that Davey could have been here, too.  I am thankful that our 700+ miles of driving last week were, for the most part, uneventful.  We had safe trips in both directions.  Our oldest daughter got some potential good news and we’re waiting to see how that goes for her.  I am grateful for the happiness that this brought her.

I am looking forward to getting caught back up with my blogging stuff.  I am way behind on everything and haven’t been able to visit the blogs of others like I should.  I will try to make up for that this week, y’all!

I am also looking forward to figuring out what I am going to post for my post-a-day goal in December! At the moment I have NO CLUE!

Good luck on your post a day challenge. I am sure something will come along. The 31 days of Christmas. Maybe 31 days of Zing!

Your poor mom had a hard time of it. I am so glad that in today’s era more women are better prepared for child birth. It looks like I a couple of years older than you. 😀 Thanks Suzanne for commenting.

    • I’m glad that we’re better prepared, too. My grandma (mama’s mama) was a big help to me in preparing me. I carried her words with me into labor and delivery. While I no longer remember her exact words (this was about 30 years ago!), she basically said that it was no day at the beach, but it was nothing to get all worked up over either. I figured Grandma had 7 babies, so she knew what she was talking about. 🙂

I was born in 1965. I was just over a year old in the picture with my parents. You can’t tell it, but my mama was on her way to having my twin brothers in that picture. They were born about 4 months after that photo was taken.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed day!

I’m sorry you can’t eat cashews any more. They are my favourite too! Have a wonderful day even without them 🙂

    • Thanks! I’m learning to live without them, but it makes it very hard not to want them when I see them everywhere I go. If I ever have to stop eating shrimp or cheesecake, well, I’ll just have to shoot myself or something because there would be no getting over that. 🙂
I hope that you have a wonderful day, too!

Wonderful photo! … I know it’s hard not to eat what you want to. I feel I don’t want to even go to a movie anymore, because I want the popcorn so much. 🙂 … Wow, that story of the day you were born…so scary for your mom! Glad you both were ok!

    • Thank you! It is my favorite picture of me and my parents together and the only one from that part of my life that includes the three of us. It was taken at the county fair.
I love popcorn, too, but it isn’t something that I can eat away from home. They had some in the hospital lobby a week or so ago when we went to get David re-casted. The smell was torture! I’m sorry that you can’t eat popcorn anymore.
Yes, it was a very scary day for her and for my aunt, too. My aunt was pregnant, too, not quite as far along as my mama. I think she was a month behind her. She had to try to pull my mama out of that hole. Everything turned out okay for me, but my aunt’s baby died when he was 3 weeks old. He has a stomach defect. I am sure that his defect had nothing to do with the accident the day I was born, but I spent my childhood feeling like I had killed my cousin. I can understand my aunt’s reaction to things so much better now that I am older and have experienced such a loss myself. When I was little, it wasn’t so easy to understand.
      Have a blessed day!

So sad that your aunt’s baby didn’t live long. I could understand how you must have felt, though, even as you say it wasn’t caused by anything you or anyone did.

        • Thank you, Barbara. It really took a toll on my aunt. I often wonder if it was a part of the rift between her and my mama, or if that was something left over from their childhoods. It isn’t really anything that I could ask either of them at this point and it appears they’ve repaired their relationship now that both of them are widows.
          Have a blessed week. 🙂

I’m glad you enjoyed your holiday. Sounds like a lot of love over there 🙂
I enjoyed that birthing story. That’s one of the most interesting births EVER!
    Have a great week, Suzanne!

No need to feel bad about being behind, readers understand that there is more to life than sitting at a computer all day.
    Take care, look after yourself.

    • Thanks, Elsie. 🙂 David suggested that maybe I shouldn’t be so adamant about having a post each day on my blogs. He is probably right, but I don’t like not making a goal. Six months of posting every day isn’t so bad, even though the goal is/was for a year.
How are you doing? Have things calmed down in regards to the earthquakes and aftershocks? I hope everyone is going to be okay. You’re all in my prayers. You take care, too. 🙂 Have a blessed day.
