There is a really cool place about 15 miles from here that we affectionately call “The Ruins”. It is a shell of a building with no roof. I don’t know what the building housed in its former life, but I love that they have let its remains continue to stand. It will be a very sad day to drive up and find it gone. I hope that never happens.
Our oldest daughter, Laynie, loves to have her picture taken and she loves this place. We decided one day to head up there and make use of The Ruins, as we’d already been given permission in the past to take pictures there.

Thank you, Davy. We did have a wonderful day. She’s itching to go again soon. We just have to wait for this area to dry out some more and to cool down before we can go back.

Suzanne, what a fabulous backdrop for your daughter’s picture taking session. She looks like a princess from the medieval period. Great job and what a cool place! Thanks for sharing. You are an excellent portrait photographer. Have you considered shooting weddings, High School senior shots, family pictures, or other personal photographs? You have a good eye for it!

Yes, I have thought about being a portrait photographer, but it is one of those things that I think about and then sit down until the feeling passes. There is just too much stress in wedding shooting and other once-in-a-lifetime events. I don’t think that either David or I have recovered from the wedding photography incident over 25 years ago. He shot my cousin’s wedding. This was in the days of film photography. The film got stuck in the camera, so we had to take it to the camera store to be dealt with. When it was time to go back to the camera store, the shop was closed, as in forever, and the owner had disappeared along with the camera and the film/pictures. You can’t get that moment back. It was devastating. You can replace the camera, but not those photos. Now, we deal in digital photography, but it isn’t free of potential problems. There are card failures, camera failures, etc. Then, there’s the people…I have been approached about photographing quinceneras (I don’t know how to spell it…the Hispanic 15th birthday party thing). But, these parties are loaded with alcohol. I could not function in an environment full of drunk men. No way.
There are just too many variables and I’m a wimp. 🙂

Cool! I’ve never been to Jeckyll Island, GA. David’s parents went once for a business meeting. What is the name of the place that it reminds you of? Maybe I can find pictures of it online. Have a blessed day!
