The End of Me
The echoes of past love
Whooshed by my heart today
The ground crackled underneath the feet
Of those that dug my grave.
The rustling leaves silenced
The blood gurgling from my broken heart
As strident wails it made.
No nocturne from your heart
Scratching below, surfacing old wounds
Your betrayal, percussive
Your harsh words sonorous.
Pain deafens me, buzzing like a wasp
Thready and weak, my pulse
No longer holds you bound.
Your joyful whistle is my last sound.

Thank you. It is morning here and it has started off beautifully, with fog hugging the oak trees. I think that’s great. 🙂

Suzanne, beautifully poetic! These words could be used in a song. Have you considered submitting them to a site where lyrics are published? Guess what? You made my Top July Commenters list. Congratulations and thank you for being a good friend! 🙂

Thank you, Cathy. I hadn’t even thought of anything like that. Do you know of any? I wrote this very early this morning.
Thank you for the Top July Commenters post. How sweet! I will head over and look at it now. Thank you for being a good friend, too. 🙂 Have a wonderful day!

Oh, I sure hope so! Thank you for your sweet comment on this poem, Rosema. I was kind of afraid to put it out there after I wrote it, especially after posting my happiness challenge post. I figured folks would think it was weird going from one extreme to the other. I am glad that I did post it. Thank you so much for reading it. 🙂 Have a blessed day, my friend.

Oh dear! it was perfect. I love sad poems, and i love writing sad poems (though that does not mean i am unhappy). And this is one achingly sad yet so lovely piece! Great, my friend!

Thank you, my friend. 🙂 It seems to be that sad poems are what I am meant to write. Very rarely am I able to write a happy one, though it has happened on occasion. Maybe I’ll start posting my older poems along with new ones here on McClendon Villa. I have them in a book for the Kindle reader on Amazon. My book is titled Shattered (by Suzanne G. McClendon). It is mostly sad or fearful, and sometimes mad, poems. Thank you again for your sweet comments regarding “The End of Me”. 🙂

Pain deafens me….that’s a nice way to build a wrap up! Excellent start. However, you are now incredibly hooked. You will now wait for Monday and twist your mind into plotting how to attack a pile of words with no obvious connection.
