Back in 2009, we went to Brazos Bend State Park, which is about 30 miles from where we currently live. One of the neat things about this place is that thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of alligators live there. But, that isn’t the coolest thing about this park.
We took one of the trails on our way to the alligators and, as we made the bend in the path, before us was the most awesome tree that I have ever seen! It is tremendous!

Not one to leave well enough alone and trying to learn different things in Photoshop, I took on a tutorial that I saw in the AfterCapture magazine. It was about creating a pastel image from a digital one. Here is the first attempt, which wasn’t what it was supposed to be.

There are blank spaces that aren’t supposed to be blank, but I liked the look, so I kept the file. It has kind of a spooky air to it, in my opinion. Not one to give up quite yet back then, I tried again and got the following image.

This is how it was supposed to turn out. I love it and wish that I could find that tutorial again because there are other images that I would like to try this on.
What are your thoughts on these images? About the tree itself? And the alligators?

Suzanne, I’d be like a nervous Cathy taking a walk where alligators live and I pretty sure I wouldn’t attempt to get outside my car. lol That tree is really cool. I love how the branches stretch in varying directions. This would be so much fun to climb, if I were a kid. The photo-editing technique is cool. I bet if you Google it you’ll find the tutorial. I agree that it would be a great tree to climb. I also think that it would be a great setting for a Celtic-themed wedding, or at least a photo shoot for one. I am going to keep looking for the tutorial. It would help if I could remember the title of the technique, but all I remember is that they called it Pastel something.

Beautiful! I think the filter gives the image a Dali-esque appearance. Hopefully you can find the tutorial again. 🙂

I have been searching on line, but no luck so far. Very rarely have I thrown out photography magazines, so it has to be around here somewhere. I know I wouldn’t have knowingly gotten rid of this one.
